I love the idea of adding your bridal party along for the wedding cake especially if the party have know each other for years. It’s a nice touch to show appreciation to your friends and family; that the journey has just begun and your friends and family will not be left behind.

Toppers date back to the 1890s. According to the article, “Bride and Groom Wedding Cake Toppers,” the first toppers were made from gum paste and plaster. By the 1920s, they were a hit with high society. The first commercially manufactured toppers were made from glass, paper and wood. In 1924, a U.S. wholesale catalog sold wax toppers, and by 1927, the Sears Roebuck catalog was devoting an entire page to wedding toppers. Slack Manufacturing began selling celluloid toppers in 1928. By the ’50s, toppers were a must-have item for bridal couples.
Today, couples can choose from a wide variety of toppers. Topper choices are limited only by the imagination. They come in cellophane, paper, paper mache and wax, among other materials. The emphasis is on custom-made and personalized toppers that reflect the couple’s tastes and interests. Couples can choose personalized colors, designs, materials, sizes, styles and themes. The idea is to choose a topper that reflects the couple’s love and life for each other.

The modern cake-cutting ceremony holds many meanings dating back to Medieval times. The bride and groom begin the ceremony by cutting the cake together. This represents the couple’s first joint act as husband and wife. The couple’s action of feeding each other the first piece represents their desire to care for one another. The act of serving the guests each a piece of the cake goes back to the belief that eating some of the cake would bring good luck.

Tip number 1 – is one of those that should always be remembered for any event.
#1 Stay true to who you are…
#2 Winter weddings and events do not always have to be mean white. Feel free to add a fall color as part of your bridal party, flowers or just that pop, in shoes. Shades of blue can also add to that cool feel of winter.
#3 Treat your female guests to pashmina shawls – the men to scarves. This is the perfect gift while guests are waiting for photos or the ceremony/reception to start.
#4 Always dream of a wedding or party in a ski lodge? Rent fireplaces and arrange your cocktail hour (party) to feel like old friends hanging around the lodge after a day of skiing and playing in the snow. (Did you say cocoa and s’mores…we hear you!).
#5 As well as the bars, how about something unusual – a hot bar. Stocked with hot cider, cocoa, coffee and tea – and all the extra accompaniments to give it that extra warmth.
#6 After the cake or dessert, an unusual and sweet finishing touch..a mini chocolate fondue? Perhaps a s’mores station or cognac and chocolate pairings!

The traditional day for weddings in Iceland is Friday. In pagan times, this day was considered sacred to Frigga – the goddess of marriage. The Kransakaka is the traditional Icelandic wedding cake, it’s a pyramid-shaped cake made of almond pastry ‘wedding rings’, each filled with chocolate or sweets.
