Use tall vases with a sprig of evergreen in water and a small scented votive candle as an accent on a clean white linen tablecloth or runner.
Your holiday statement will be that of sophistication and style.

Place cards are placed at each place setting to ensure guests sit in the designated seats. They are only required if you have assigned guests to seats (not tables). If you are using tent-fold cards, print the guest’s name on both sides so that other guests on the table can also read it.
Place card names will usually be in the format “Mr John Smith”, but you can use “John Smith” or “Mr J. Smith” depending on the level of formality you are happy with. Using just the first name is obviously not recommended if there is more than one person with the same first name. Guest names can also be written on personalized menus or favors or let your creativity flow.

As you begin to think about who is going to sit with whom (which is always a daunting task) keep in mind how many people you are placing at each table; also keep in mind that the waiters need room to serve between tables and that should be a consideration if selecting round or long tables pending on the venue size and shape.
When considering how the place settings will fit on the table, you must think about glassware. Will the champagne glasses be set at the top of the meal or bought out only for the toast?
You can not neglect to think about your centerpieces if they are high make sure they are high enough not to block the view of your guest sitting across from each other. If they are low you may want to add different heights of candles so the room doesn’t feel one-dimensional.
Use the attached photo as a guideline if you are having a formal wedding to imagine your centerpieces, candles and what your actual table will look like. The last thing you want is an over crowed table. Sometimes less is more.

Event formality dictates the shape and size of napkins used.
Napkins are usually square. The following list shows what sized napkins are used for various occasions:
*Formal, Multiple Course, Meals – large napkins (22 – 26 inches square);
*Buffet Service – medium to large napkins (18 to 24 inches square or 12 x 22 inches);
*Informal Dinners – medium napkins (18 to 20 inches square);
*Luncheons – smaller napkins (14 to 16 inches square);
*Tea – small napkins (12 inches square)
*Cocktails – very small napkins (9 inches square, 4 x 6 inches, or 6 x 8 inches).
Napkins are placed in the center of the service plate to save space at a formal event. (Menus can be placed on top of napkins or in napkin folds) Informal meals allow the host to place the napkin wherever they choose. Keep in mind when ordering napkins with caterers to always add an additional 6-8 for those that drop them, spills or just take it them to the dance floor. Also consider what color napkins will be used in your breadbaskets if they are placed on the table you will also need to order them. Feel free to mix and match your napkins as part of your overall design.
