Henna, originated from the Arabic word Hina; a plant used mainly for body art & beautification purposes. Bridal henna tradition originated in the late Neolithic fertility religions in the eastern Mediterranean and spread from there across many countries.
Bridal henna celebrations refer to women marking themselves with henna in preparation to meet their husbands. In countries such as India and Morocco, the night before the wedding, the bride has her hands and feet tattooed with henna celebrating her purity, fertility and her departure to her future husband’s house. Henna was regarded as having “Baraka”, blessings, and was applied for luck as well as joy and beauty.
