Did you know the tradition of throwing the garter goes back to the 14th century? At that time people believed that the clothes the bride wore were lucky. It was believed who ever caught the garter would experience good luck and fortune.
The tradition has changed a little since then. Now the groom tosses the garter to men who are not married. It is thought whoever catches it will be the next one to be married.
Traditionally the garter will be on the bride’s right leg just above the knee. Sometimes a bride will wear 2 in order to have a throw away garter and have one as a keepsake.
